Fonseca announces the launch of Guimaraens 2018 Vintage, the first bottling of a Guimaraens since 2015.
Adrian Bridge, CEO "I am very pleased that we are launching the 2018 Guimaraens Vintage. The Guimaraens concept is unique. While Guimaraens Vintages share the pedigree and character of Fonseca classics, they are bottled in years when the wines are more accessible and can be enjoyed young. The 2018 combines the rich, ripe fruit of Quinta do Panascal in the Távora valley and the structure and depth of the properties in the Pinhão valley. The wine will be bottled in July as usual, but due to the current economic situation, it will not be released for sale until early 2021. "
David Guimaraens, Director of Enology "I believe the 2018 is one of the best recent examples of a Guimaraens Vintage. It features the rich, dense forest fruit that is the hallmark of Fonseca's style. But it also has the fresh acidity, robust, well-integrated tannins, and depth of flavor typical of the year. Guimaraens Vintage can be enjoyed younger than the classics, and the 2018 is a wonderfully seductive wine that can already be drunk with great pleasure. However, we should not forget that Guimaraens Vintage also has aging potential if you decide to age it. It is worth mentioning that the 2018 Vintages have the highest color intensity of recent years, which is always a sign of good extraction and longevity. "
